Don't Hate the Selfie!

The Inspiration for this project has come from the wonderful ideas of the iPad Art Room. They have some great resources for using Art and Technology together.

Stage 3 started the Project by defining what a "Selfie" was. The students discussed that it was a photo or snapshot that is taken of ourselves to show what we are doing, who we are with and where we are. These photos are then published to social media to show our friends and the wider community. It is often how we want others to perceive us. 

Our next point of discussion was to compare Selfies to a self portrait. Many artists used similar ideas when they were painting pictures of themselves, while also experimenting with colour and painting techniques. We created a chart to compare selfies and self portraits.

The students then had to brainstorm, thinking of places where they would like to have a selfie, who they would like to have a selfie with and what they could include in their selfie. These ideas then formed the basis of the photos that they students took. They also came up with some creative solutions by using iPad apps such as Pic Collage  to recreate some of the ideas that they had.

The students will write a reflection on why they think their photo is effective and what it portrays about themselves. It will be interesting to see what they write!

Interviews

Understanding another person's point of view is the basis of many Interviews, which has been the focus of English this term. Learning about another person's perspective and their views of their circumstances and experiences, helps us to empathise with another's situation. We learn from their situation and can grow from their experience.

We watched and analysed an interview conducted by Adam Hills with Anh Do. who came to Australia as a refugee. Initially we compared the book "The Littlest Refugee" that Anh and Suzanne Do had written, where we discussed the book and how it was written from his point of view. The Interview helped to show that An Doh's attitude to life was shaped by his parents, who helped him face some very challenging circumstances as a child.

In order to understand how to find out another person's point of view, the students brainstormed questions that they could ask in an Interview to find out about another person's life. The questions had to be open ended, and not lead to yes or no questions. Some examples were:

• If you could go any where in the world. where would you go? Why?
• What was the best holiday that you have gone on? 
• What do you like to do in your spare time?
• What would you like to achieve in your life?

Then in small groups the students videoed themselves conducting an interview with a friend. They used the iMovie app to then publish their interview. We had a few issues along the way but the process of creating the Interviews was beneficial. We learnt a bit more about each other, we had fun using iMovie and ended up with some creative results.

Year 6 Award Winners!

It was a hard job to pick this weeks Award Winners. Everyone was very worthy of this honour. I enjoyed going to the cricket and see how well our teams played. It is encouraging to see how well everyone has shown resilience and support for each other. Well done guys! 

In the end I had to pick three... A worthy bunch indeed: talented, cheerful & cheeky!

Cricket Gala Day

Twenty of our best and brightest students attended the Milo Cricket T20 Blast Gala Day. MACC was represented by some very capable and enthusiastic Stage 3 people, who showed great behaviour and team spirit throughout the day. We were one of four schools to attend the day. The biggest achievement of the day was that we played as teams and gave our best, even in the face of defeat.
It was a really fun day and definitely worth going!

Cross Country

Some find it easy. Some find it hard. Most put in a great effort and had fun. It was great to see classmates who finished encouraging those still on the course

Da Vinci Decathlon Results

Stage 3 participated well at the Da Vinci Decathlon on Thursday, showing great MACC enthusiasm and creativity in the ten events. Year 5 proved to be outstanding in a number of areas, such as Creative Producers, Engineering and Philosophy. They came second in the Year 5 Division.
Year 6 were very creative as well, winning the Engineering and Creative Producers for the Year 6 Division.
